Rotator Cuff Repair

Rotator Cuff Repair for Shoulder Pain and Injury Recovery

Rotator cuff repair is a surgical procedure aimed at repairing tears in the rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint. The rotator cuff is crucial for shoulder movement, and tears can result from trauma, repetitive overhead motions, or age-related wear and tear. Symptoms of a rotator cuff tear include shoulder pain, weakness, limited range of motion, and difficulty performing daily tasks like lifting or reaching.

During the procedure, the surgeon reattaches the torn tendons to the bone, often using sutures or anchors to secure the tendons back in place. Depending on the size and location of the tear, the surgeon may perform the surgery through an open incision or using arthroscopic techniques, which involve small incisions and a camera to guide the repair.

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is the preferred method for most patients due to its minimally invasive nature, which allows for quicker recovery, less pain, and smaller scars. The recovery period varies, but it typically involves a period of immobilization followed by physical therapy to restore strength and range of motion.

Following surgery, patients may experience significant relief from pain and a restoration of shoulder function, allowing them to return to normal activities and sports over time. However, full recovery can take several months, depending on the severity of the tear and the patient’s adherence to rehabilitation protocols.
